friends, food, and Fall fun!

Wow another very busy week.  Lots of friends, food, and Fall activities!

After Kai’s treatment Wednesday we had dinner at Ashley’s before picking up ba noi (Marks mom) from the airport. She will be with us another two weeks before moving on to AZ to visit Keith, Marks brother.  She has been cooking up a storm again which is great because Kai seems to love Vietnamese food!

Later Wednesday night Mark went back to the airport to pick up Chieh who was visiting from Hawaii.

It was the perfect Fall weekend to be visiting New England and we took full advantage.  Mark and Chieh spent some time exploring Boston on Thursday while Kai and I rested and after chemo. Saturday we spent the day driving around Massachusetts, picking apples and taking in all the beautiful foliage.  We ended the day in Northampton and were able to have a little visit Grandpa and Michelle before heading back home.  It was a long day  and we had  lots of fun.  Chieh took some amazing pictures of the foliage and the family.  We are so lucky to have such a talented friend!  Thanks Chieh for the amazing memories.

Sunday Kai and I were up for more Autumn activities so we met Gigi and Ashley in Sturbridge for the Scare Crow festival.  It was a perfect day to spend outside and after refusing to eat any ‘real’ food Kai enjoyed an exciting lunch of pumpkin ice cream and fried dough!  Oh well, the more calories the better I guess!

Kai also had his first acupuncture appointment this week.  It went very well and we are excited to try to  make it a part of his regular treatment.  Jackie, his acupuncturist, spent a long time with us asking about Kai and explaining  how she may help him.  She explained that often times with babies she does a lot of work with magnets, but since Kai can’t be around magnets due to his programmable shunt, she ended up using other metals and did some needle work on him.  He tolerated it really well.  He did not even notice the needles and he seemed to really like Jackie. I hope it will help restore his body and ease some of his side effects.
